Filmmakers come to AFI because they are guaranteed to make movies, and to master not only the tools, but also the art of storytelling. AFI isn’t like any other graduate film school in Los Angeles or the nation. Think of us like the most prolific content creators in Hollywood.
Located in the filmmaking capital of the world, the AFI Conservatory is nestled in the hills overlooking Hollywood. The picturesque eight-acre campus is in the center of the professional filmmaking community with easy access to studios, networks and post-production facilities.
The AFI Conservatory is a private non-profit graduate film school in the Hollywood Hills district of Los Angeles. Students (called "Fellows") learn from the masters in a collaborative, hands-on production environment with an emphasis on storytelling. The Conservatory is a program of the American Film Institute founded in 1969.
The AFI Conservatory MFA Cinematography program trains filmmakers to become experts in the technical and creative aspects of cinematography. Learn more and apply.
15 de jun. de 2016 · At the opening of the AFI Conservatory in September 1969, founding director George Stevens, Jr., inspired the very first class of artists with remarks that ended, “Let us work to assure that we grow and change as film itself does.”
