Buffalo Springfield var stærkt inspireret af folk rock bandet The Byrds som også var fra Los Angeles.. Bandet bestod af Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay, Dewey Martin og Bruce Palmer som senere blev udskiftet med Jim Messina.
