In 1969, In the Heat of the Night was adapted to the stage in the Soviet Union. The adaptor added a scene at the end in which Tibbs boards the train home only to be forced to ride in the section reserved for black people. Following up on the success of In the Heat of the Night, Poitier starred as police detective Virgil Tibbs in two more films.
