Broadway the hard way, indeed. Frank Zappa's mock musical is also one of his most scathing satires, and sure to offend the sensibilities of many who hear it. Those who get past its prickly skin will be pleased to discover an ambitious, hilarious, and catchy look at life and love in the 1980's--with an outlook not so good.

This album was preceeded by the Thing-Fish project coming to visual fruition via a 'Hustler' magazine pictorial spread, April 1984, financed by Larry Flynt.
Thing-Fish è un concept album del musicista e compositore statunitense Frank Zappa, pubblicato nel 1984 su triplo LP in vinile. Alla sua uscita venne pubblicizzato come la colonna sonora di un progettato musical dallo stesso nome, ma Zappa non arrivò mai a produrlo in vita, anche se venne in seguito messo in scena nel 2003, dieci anni dopo la sua morte.
Good: 1) Ike Willis's Thing-Fish character, spoken with an amusing, knowingly racist dialect similar to Amos and Andy (it helps that Willis is African-American himself). Willis is on top of the role and performs it brilliantly. 2) Terry and Dale Bozzio pulling off a very convincing, albeit over-the-top yuppie couple.
THING-FISH and OB’DEWLLA lurk in the corner of the creche as it slides in. HARRY, in S&M submissive gear, is kneeling before them. RHONDA enters left, wrist to forehead, suffering magnificently, dressed in a Santa Claus costume.
