After recuperating, she recorded the independent album Twilight for Spiral Music, which didn't gain much attention despite her exposure on BBC Radio 1 in 2004. She then signed with UEG Entertainment, but the resulting Best Kept Secret never surfaced. Frustrated by her lack of success, Lewis auditioned for The X Factor in 2006.
