A semi-supergroup, Toe Fat were former The Gods and future Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull members fronted by Rebel Rouser Cliff Bennett, who’d scored two Top 10 hits in the 60s. Far away from the soulful R&B strains of his former band, Bennett was now a gritty-throated hard rocker and contributed to both Toe Fat albums.

Toe Fat was een Engelse popgroep, die in 1969 werd opgericht door Cliff Bennett, voorheen van Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, met drie leden van de band The Gods. De groep wisselde een keer van samenstelling en ging in 1971 uit elkaar. De muzikale stijl had het meeste weg van hardrock.
Where we had bands with names like Jade Hexagram, Opal Butterly and Tinkerbell's Fairydust in 1967, by 1970 we had Toe Fat, Ancient Grease and 'Igginbottom's Wrench. The sleeve art also appeared to be a conscious attempt to get as far away from the swirling, flowery, fairytale art nouveau influenced themes of psychedelia into deliberately grotesque and ugly designs, such as this for Toe Fat 2.
