After praising Whodini’s role in rap’s ascension to the mainstream in the 1980’s, it pains me to say their first album isn’t that good. It’s value as a part of their legacy and as a launching pad for the heights they’d later achieve can’t be dismissed ...

Whodini, together with Run DMC, are heavily responsible for turning hip-hop into an album type of genre. It all started with Whodini in 1983 releasing a couple of singles and then putting them into an album. The singles are still the best tracks but this album is on a whole pretty good and worth having for 80s hip-hop fans.
