Starring Sylvester Stallone as an inmate forced into racing a deadly car race, Death Race 2000 premiered as part of this franchise in 1975. Death Race returned in 2008 with Jason Statham playing an ex-race car driver framed for murder who is then forced to compete in its titular race.

The film takes place in a dystopian American society in the year 2000, where the murderous Transcontinental Road Race has become a form of national entertainment.
