Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles and she theirs.

The slippers, worn by Minnesota-born actress Judy Garland in the 1939 film, were famously stolen from the Grand Rapids museum in 2005.
