The Talented Mr. Ripley was written by Patricia Highsmith and published in 1955. Alien, the 1979 movie was based on a short story by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett in the mid 70s. Aliens , the sequel was released in 1986. There is absolutely no relationship between the two. That the protagonist in Alien is named Ripley is purely coincidence.
