Anonymous IV worked at Notre Dame in the 1270s and gave a first hand account of the groundbreaking music created there. He (or she) credits Léonin with the development of the Magnus Liber Organi (in Latin, “Great Book of Organum”).

Perotin se distinguió en la revisión de la colección de polifonía a dos voces Magnus liber de Leonin y en la composición de organa y conductus a dos (Dum sigillum), tres (Salvatoris hodie) y cuatro voces (Viderunt omnes, Sederunt principes). Uno de los tesoros de la incipiente polifonía medieval es precisamente Viderunt omnes.
En general, se trata aún de compositores anónimos. Sin embargo, el teórico inglés del s.XIII Anonymus 4 cita a los maestros Leonin y Perotin. El autor de textos más conocido es Phiplippe le Chancelier. RITMO Y NOTACIÓN MODALES. Con excepción de las partes libres del organum, prevalecen ritmos ternarios rápidos.
