The Empress’s second- and third-class accommodations suited the needs of the travelling public and combined affordability, convenience, comfort and speed. The career of the RMS Empress of Ireland ended in the early morning hours of May 29th 1914 when it collided with the Norwegian collier the SS Storstad.
Aboard the Empress of Ireland, band members travelled in second class, where Frank Brooks shared a cabin with his bandmate, George Felstead. Henrietta and Dolly were in third class along with Mr. Felstead's wife and two children. Following the collision with the Storstad, Mr. Brooks did not know where his wife and daughter were.

The ensuing chaos of the sinking, which took place in a horrifically short 14-minute span, would kill more passengers than had died on Titanic two years prior.
9 de feb. de 2015 · May 29, 2014, marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Empress of Ireland near Sainte-Luce-sur-mer. Of the 1,477 people aboard, 1,012 perished in 14 minutes. In 1980, a group of people passionate about the shipwreck founded the Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père. Since then, we have shared this fascinating story with tens of thousands of visitors to Rimouski.
