  2. 5 de oct. de 2011 · I believe this is one of the first books I've read that is based on the movie, rather than vice versa. At times it crosses the line into sentimentality, but romantics will take heart and a handful of tissues. Both the movie and the book condensed and misrepresented the real history of the real Elephant Man for dramatic effect.

  3. About The Book. The Elephant Man is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the nineteenth century. A horribly deformed young man, who has been a freak attraction in traveling side shows, is found abandoned and helpless and is admitted for observation to Whitechapel, a prestigious London hospital.

  5. 1 de abr. de 2010 · This was probably one of the sadest books I have read. my only somewhat negative review would be that it was as much about Doctor Treves who wound up caring for The Elephant Man as it was about Joseph Merrick. The book gives a very good picture of the period in England and Europe durring the period of the late 1800's and early 1900's.
