In order for you to have an account with Common App, at least one student needs to invite you from the Recommenders/FERPA section of the student account. Once a student has successfully invited you, an email with instructions on how to create and log into your account will be sent to the address used to invite you. I am a counselor or recommender.

It’s best to ask in person, but an email is ok too. When asking, be respectful of your recommenders’ time. You should ask for a leter of recommendation at least three weeks in advance of a deadline. When I invited my counselor for one school, it automatically assigned them to the other schools in the "My College" section. The best policy is to double check if your recommenders are assigned for each individual school, as you can manually add them if necessary.
