29 de dic. de 2023 · Rick Danko, best known as the bassist and sometime lead vocalist for the Band, was born today in 1943 in Blayney, Ontario. As a member of the Hawks — alongside his future associates in the Band — he was part of the backing band for Ronnie Hawkins, and later Bob Dylan. In the late ‘60s, Danko found a pink house in Saugerties, New York.

10 de dic. de 1999 · Rick Danko's light, melancholic and at times desperate voice, on classics like "The Weight," "Stage Fright" and "It Makes No Difference" was one of their trademarks, his elegant bass lines another. Rick reinvented the fretless bass in rock and also played country fiddle, often accompanied by the mandolin of Levon Helm.

It was my fourth Bob Dylan show and my second electric Dylan show. Somehow I had a front row center seat I'd bought at the theater that afternoon. I really didn't know who the Hawks were.
