While you COULD watch it without watching The Room, I'm not sure why you would want to. The Disaster Artist is in many ways fan service for people who've seen and have fallen in love with The Room due to how terrible it is, so while you could watch it and not be too confused, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not getting the full picture.
