Cooper was a director of a number of other organizations, most specializing in energy, advanced electronics systems, efficient homes, boats and marine systems and equipment.

  2. He also served as backup pilot for MA-8, Wally Schirra's mission in Sigma 7.11. Cooper's first flight began on May 15, 1963, when he was launched as the pilot of MA-9, the last Mercury mission. Cooper, in his Faith 7 capsule, orbited the Earth 22 times and logged more time in space than all five previous Mercury astronauts combined.

  3. 30 de ago. de 2023 · Colonel Cooper was selected as a Mercury astronaut in April 1959. He piloted the “Faith 7” spacecraft which concluded the operational phase of Project Mercury. Cooper served as command pilot of the Gemini 5 mission. He served as backup command pilot for Gemini 12 and as backup commander for Apollo X. Colonel Cooper logged 222 hours in space.
