Jean-François Millet (Gruchy (Gréville-Hague), 4 oktober 1814 – Barbizon, 20 januari 1875) was net als de schilders Théodore Rousseau, Jules Dupré en Charles-François Daubigny een van de Barbizon-bewoners.Toch sloot hij zich nooit echt aan bij de stijlgenoten. Millet kreeg een academische opleiding bij Bon Dumouchel en bij Jérome Langlois te Cherbourg.

Jean-François Millet est le fils de Jean Louis Nicolas Millet (originaire de Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard) et de Aimée Henriette Adélaïde Henry. Il est né à Gruchy, hameau de Gréville-Hague, intégré depuis le 1er janvier 2017 à la commune nouvelle française de La Hague.
