Keble College has come a long way since its opening in 1870.The first Oxford College of the modern era, it was founded in memory of John Keble (1792-1866), well known for his best-selling Christian verse and a key member of the so-called Oxford Movement which sought to recover the Catholic heritage of the Church of England.

The icon of the Holy Trinity in the Side-Chapel was given to the College by its author, Ian Knowles, in gratitude for his time as an undergraduate at Keble and as a sign of his continuing support. They sing at the three main Chapel services each week: The College Eucharist (Sundays 5.30pm) is the main service of the week, with hymns, choral music, and a thought-provoking talk.
