Professor N. Wirth received the degree of electronics engineer from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich in 1958. Thereafter he studied at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, and received the MSc degree in 1960. At the University of California at Berkeley he pursued his studies, leading to the PhD degree in 1963.
