Always a popular performer, Mayall is nevertheless more celebrated for the musicians he attracted into his band, the Bluesbreakers.

John Manchesterben képzőművészeti főiskolát végzett. 1953–1954-ben részt vett a koreai háborúban. 1956-ban alakította meg első együttesét, Powerhouse Four néven, majd 1961-ben a másodikat: Blues Syndicate. 1963-ban hozta létre a John Mayall's Bluesbreakerst, mely az évek során számos tagcserén, feloszlatáson és újrakezdésen át fennmaradt, végül 2008-ban feloszlott.

John Mayall, OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) (born 29 November 1933, Macclesfield, Cheshire, England) is an English blues singer, guitarist, organist and songwriter, whose musical career spans over fifty years. He is the brother of Rod Mayall and former spouse of Maggie Mayall.
