Established in 1975 by Emilio Estefan Jr., the band was originally known as the Miami Latin Boys before becoming the Miami Sound Machine in 1977. The band had a number of albums and a string of hit singles until 1989.

Ursprünglich Anfang der 1970er Jahre in Miami von dem kubanischen Musiker Emilio Estefan als Miami Latin Boys gegründet, benannte sich die Gruppe nach Aufnahme der Sängerin Gloria Fajardo (später verheiratete Gloria Estefan) circa 1977 in Miami Sound Machine um..   7. In 1977, Miami Sound Machine began recording and releasing various albums and 45s on the Audiofon Records label in Miami. Their first album was titled Live Again/Renacer (1977). After several more releases on the Audiofon, RCA Victor, and MSM Records labels, the band was signed to Discos CBS International and released several albums beginning with the 1978 self-titled album Miami Sound Machine .
