Kyuss was een band die aan het einde van de jaren tachtig in het Amerikaanse Palm Springs is ontstaan. Ze waren een bekende in de Palm Desert Scene en destijds organiseerden ze de zogenaamde generator parties waarmee de band Yawning Man is begonnen en een inspiratiebron was voor de band. Midden in de woestijn werd een podium gebouwd en de hele nacht werd onder de sterrenhemel gespeeld.
