Phillips Academy was founded on the idea that an Andover education should be—must be—open and accessible to “youth of requisite qualifications from every quarter.” True to our constitution, we’re one of the few independent schools in the country to admit students regardless of financial need; the official term for this is “need-blind admission.”
Phillips Academy admits qualified students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender identity or expression, religion, sexual orientation, disability status, or any other status protected by applicable law, and extends to them all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
In its 1778 constitution, Phillips Academy is charged with ensuring its students learn “the great end and real business of living.” Inspired by this charge, we seek to cultivate in our students the capacities—among them analytical rigor, imaginative thought, and nuanced skepticism— necessary to identify and attain a great and worthy end: human flourishing.
