The Concert for Bangladesh. Originally released 1971. In 1971, hearing Ravi Shankar’s distress, George helped organize the Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden. At that time, the country was ravaged by floods, famine and civil war, which left 10 million people — mostly women and children — fleeing their homes.
The Concert for Bangladesh is a film directed by Saul Swimmer and released in 1972. 19 de jul. de 2018 · On 1st August 1971, the Concert For Bangladesh, organized by George Harrison to aid victims of famine and war in Bangladesh, took place at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The two concerts, one afternoon and one evening, played to over 40,000 people and featured the all-star cast of Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar, Klaus Voorman, and Badfinger.

A further live album was recorded as well as a concert film, but due to legal issues and bureaucracy, much of the overall $10 million raised was held by the IRS for a decade before being released to the relief effort.
