Als zangeres. In 1966 reisde Marsha Hunt naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk, waar ze Mike Ratledge van de band Soft Machine leerde kennen. Beiden traden in 1967 in het huwelijk. Ze werkte als zangeres, onder andere in Alexis Korners trio Free at Last en bij de band The Ferris Wheel. In 1968 speelde ze in Londen Dionne in de musical Hair.
Marsha Hunt was born in Philadelphia on April 15, 1946, and lived in North Philadelphia. Her father, Blair Theodore Hunt, Jr., was one of the first black psychiatrists in America. He did not live with Marsha and it was reported that when Marsha Hunt was 15-years old, she was informed that he had committed suicide three years prior.
