In 1997, and after the 1996 album Force of Habit, John Kirkpatrick came up with this album Welcome to Hell also credited to the John Kirkpatrick band. Once again it is a fine album. And like its predecessor the same line up of band members are present.

John is helped along with some impressive musicians on this recording. Michael Gregory is on drums, Graeme Taylor from the Albion Band) is on Guitar, Paul Burgess and dave Berry plays fiddle and recorder. As well as traditional pieces many are by Kirkpatrick himself and these new compositions sit comfortably with the genuine traditional tunes.

John Kirkpatrick – remarkable British king of the squeezebox – has had a similarly illustrious and diverse career. The span of Kirkpatrick’s work is quite astounding: the solo work, the duo with Sue Harris, a member of ensembles like the Albion Country Band, Steeleye Span and Umps and Dumps, Morris dancer, accompanist to Richard Thompson and an enormous amount of session work.
