Diane Lane was born on 22 January 1965, in New York City, USA, to Colleen Leigh Farrington, a nightclub singer, and Burton Eugene Lane. Her parents split when she was just 13 days old, and she was in the custody of her mother until the age of six.

Colleen Farrington (August 5, 1936 – October 12, 2015) was an American model and nightclub singer. She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for the October 1957 issue. Her centerfold was photographed by Peter Basch. Farrington died in Jupiter, Florida, at the age of 79.
Lane is the daughter of Burt Lane, an acting coach and cab driver, and his wife, Colleen Farrington. The marriage did not last as the couple divorced only a few weeks after their daughter was born. Farrington had primary custody of Lane until she was about six years old.
