Of interest, I think, even to those who find The National's music untenably boring—beyond the record's self-evident study of entropy and iteration (if that's what you're here for, I give you my blessing to skip around the tracklist), the droning repetition gives the piece a sort of I Am Sitting in a Room quality, where the ear is ultimately drawn to everything except the song "Sorrow".
