Humanities and Social Sciences. To promote a rich and varied educational experience outside of the technical requirements for each major, the College of Engineering has a Humanities and Social Sciences (H/SS) breadth requirement built into all of the programs of study. Follow these guidelines to fulfill this requirement:
At least two semesters have been completed at UC Berkeley. Your overall UC GPA is a minimum of 3.0 (some majors may have higher GPA requirements and/or additional GPA requirements). You were admitted as a freshman to the College of Engineering. (Junior transfer students and change of college admits are not eligible to apply for a double major.)
Decisions are emailed: Fall applicants: November 1-30. Spring applicants: April 1-30 (except Aerospace Engineering applicants, who will be notified June 1-30) The change of college decision is final. From manipulating organisms at the single-cell level to designing and building massive infrastructure, we cover a broad spectrum of disciplines within the growing field of engineering. And because Berkeley Engineering is known for its collaborative culture, there are numerous opportunities for both students and faculty to explore and interact with researchers within and outside the college.
Berkeley’s overall engineering graduate program is ranked third in the country by U.S. News & World Report, and our individual departments are all ranked in the top ten — with most of them in the top three. Regardless of the program they choose, our graduate students all receive a rigorous, interdisciplinary, globally aware education.
