Frederick J. Maher (...) è un batterista, produttore discografico e programmatore musicale statunitense.. Collaborò con Bill Laswell suonando nei gruppi Massacre (fondato da Fred Frith), Dance e Material.Fu anche membro degli Scritti Politti e suonò per Lou Reed.Nel 1984 pubblicò il suo unico album in studio, Basic, realizzato in collaborazione con l'ex-chitarrista dei Voidoids Robert Quine.
Fred J Maher (1871-1963) Maher was a noted north east artist and teacher. He was born at Newcastle upon Tyne and taught there, first at the Rutherford Academy and later at Armstrong College (now Newcastle University). He exhibited chiefly on Tyneside, particularly at the Northern Counties exhibitions at the Laing Art Gallery and at the Bewick Club.

He is also as interested in the mechanics of the music as he is in playing. Fred played in a group called Material (originally called Zu ), and David Gamson used to see them play in New York.
