This lack of fixity is evident not only in the number of psalms, but in their order. The book of Psalms is divided in the Hebrew into five volumes: Psalms 1–41. Psalms 42–72. Psalms 73–89. Psalms 90–106. Psalms 107–50. Across all versions of the book, the first three of these volumes or so are relatively stable.
