The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year. In doubles, a Grand Slam may be achieved as a team or as an individual with different partners.
Pete Sampras won 14 major singles titles in his career, including seven titles at Wimbledon. Andre Agassi was the first man to complete a Career Grand Slam across three different surfaces (1999), and the first to win a Career Golden Slam (winning the four majors and an Olympic singles gold medal ).
Originally coined in 1933, Grand Slam refers to a player winning all four major tennis tournaments in a calendar year, including the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The achievement is so rare that only five players have completed the feat in their careers, which we’ll discuss in this article.
