The band was founded by lead guitarist Rob Davis, lead vocalist Les Gray, drummer Dave Mount (born 3 March 1947, Carshalton; died 2 December 2006, St Helier Hospital, Carshalton) and bassist Ray Stiles (born 20 November 1946, Guildford, Surrey).
Ray Stiles started playing bass at the age of 14 on a guitar made by his dad. His musical influences were the beat groups of the early 60s; including The Hollies. He joined Mud in 1966 and turned professional in 1968.

23 de ene. de 2024 · Ray Stiles was one of the founding members of Mud, a glam rock band that had several number one hits in the 1970s. He left Mud in 1986 and joined The Hollies, where he still plays guitar and lives in Surrey.
Ray Stiles. Ray Stiles was in the band Mud during the 1970s. Mud had a charting song called "Tiger Feet", which gave a massive dance craze shortly after. Since the late 1980s, Stiles has been the bass guitarist for the Hollies .

Ray was very much the brainy one of the band, leaving school with a satchel full of ‘O’ levels, going on to the North London Polytechnic to study to be an architect. But even while he was studying, Ray dreamed of becoming a musician. Ray continues to tour as a member of the Hollies.
Ray Stiles was born November 20, 1946 in Guildford, Surrey. Ray co-owns the Pelican Recording Studio in London. Ray also plays in his own band Taboo, in which his wife, Annie, is the lead.
