To build a brushless system, you'll need two brushless motors, an Electric Speed Controller for each motor, and a PWM signal to set the speed on each ESC. The PWM signal is commonly provided by a microcontroller, which is how FDLs and the Ultrasonic/Ultrastryfe set their fps.
