If the creation account is describing physical events in the sequence they occur, the plants were created during the day on the third day and the sun during the day on the fourth day. The time the plants would need to survive is less than 24-hours:
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. New Living Translation. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit.
The ancient forests are the source for the different coal beds in evolutionary theory. Flowering plants were the most recent to appear since leaves were remodeled to attract pollinators and accomplish reproductive functions. Despite this evolutionary story, the Bible describes the creation of different kinds of plants in Genesis 1.

4 de ene. de 2022 · Plants: “Let the earth sprout vegetation: plants yielding seed” (Genesis 1:11, NASB). The Lord spoke vegetation into being upon the dry land, bringing forth seed-bearing plants of “various kinds”—grass, bushes, vines, flowers, vegetables, etc.
It appears from the text that the full plants, and not the seeds, germs, or roots, were created. The land sent forth grass, herb, tree, each in its fully developed form. This was absolutely necessary, if man and the land animals were to be sustained by grasses, seeds, and fruits.
