Possessives: nouns. Level: beginner. We add 's to singular nouns to show possession: We are having a party at John's house. Michael drove his friend's car. We add ' to plural nouns ending in -s: This is my parents' house. Those are ladies' shoes. But we use 's with irregular plural nouns:

A plural possessive noun is a plural noun with a possessive end. These people, places, or things show ownership in some manner. For example: The students’ plans for the Homecoming float were approved. This sentence shows that the object of the sentence, the students’ plans, belongs to more than one person. The plans belong to the students.

We use ’s with irregular plural nouns (e.g. children, men, people, women): The children’s parents decided which university they would go to. They have no respect for other people’s property.
