3 de ago. de 2022 · analysed more profoundly the reasons for Brazil to register one of the highest maternal mortalities among pregnant and postpartum women, by COVID-19. There were, in total, 1,948 deaths, most of them (1,488) occurring in 2021, 59% had no previous risk factors or comorbidities.
28 de ene. de 2022 · This study used data from the GBD 2019 to show the numbers of deaths and the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) - number of deaths/100,000 live births - in Brazil and its 27 Federated Units (FU), for ages 10 to 54 years, from 1990 to 2019.
According to this document, Brazil should reduce the maternal mortality rate, currently arround 60 deaths per 100,000 live births, to 20 per 100,000 between 2015 and 2030. Between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality rate decreased 56%, falling from 143 to 62 deaths per 100,000 live births.
In recent years, Brazil has had a considerable increase in maternal mortality, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Before COVID, in 2019, the maternal death ratio was 57, and in 2020 it increased to 67. In 2021 there were 107 deaths per 100,000 births, with more than 1500 deaths attributable to COVID-19.

Indirect causes are the greatest problem in more than 60% of the FU, especially for hypertensive pregnancy diseases.

11 de nov. de 2021 · Maternal mortality is the main indicator of the quality of maternal and women's health; however, outcomes other than death can be considered for health evaluation in the maternal group, from this perspective, the indicator of the quality of care is the number of prenatal consultations.
