In the 1970s, Elion helped to develop acyclovir, an early anti-viral medication, alongside a team of other researchers. She was a gracious southern belle for all of her 98 years and at the time of her passing, she was the oldest living graduate of St. Gertrude High School. Ginny loved a party, was an excellent cook, and had a raft of friends.
