Streaming aspect ratio. Dune (2021) Since we know Dune was shot in 1.43:1 (IMAX), why is the HBO MAX release cropped to 2.39:1 when 95% of screens for streaming are in 16:9? Wouldn't the most immersive streaming option be to crop the IMAX ratio a little bit to 16:9 for HBO MAX, allowing 95% of viewers a full screen immersive ...
FYI: very few IMAX theatres played the 1:43:1 aspect ratio of Dune. Most IMAX venues can only play 1.90:1- which is close enough to 16:9. The closest theater to me that had a true size IMAX screen (1.43:1) was over 300 mi away.
24 de dic. de 2021 · The film was ultimately completed as a 4K Digital Intermediate at the 2.39:1 scope aspect ratio for its wide theatrical release (though some scenes were also finished at 1.43 and 1.90 for IMAX Laser and IMAX Xenon digital exhibition).
