Whether they run, swim or fly, wild animals need to move to complete their life cycles. We call their routes wildlife corridors. These can span anywhere from a stretch of river to a whole continent. National wildlife refuges are vital to connecting and maintaining safe wildlife corridors for birds, fish and mammals.
The Florida Wildlife Corridor covers nearly 17.7 million acres of Florida. 9.6 million acres of the Corridor are existing conserved lands, or 54% of the Corridor. 8.1 million acres of the Corridor are considered as opportunity areas for future conservation, or 46% of the Corridor. Download PDF.

The new maps add more valuable tools for land managers and policy makers to mitigate the impacts of development on wildlife.
Our Potential Habitat map series derive from data compiled by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI). The maps represent the extent of suitable habitat identified throughout the entire state.
