The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. For this, we look at the school's average GPA for its current students. Average GPA: 4.32. The average GPA at UVA is 4.32. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA.
If we established a firm minimum GPA, a point below which no applicant would have any chance of being admitted, we'd miss a fair number of students who might make UVA a better, stronger place. The same is true for SAT scores.

Education and Human Development: Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.600 or higher receive their degrees "with honors", with a GPA of 3.750 or higher receive their degrees "with high honors", and with a GPA of 3.900 or higher receive their degrees "with highest honors".
