Martin-Baker is a family-run business that has been designing and producing ejection and crashworthy seats for over 79 years. It has delivered over 91,500 seats to 16 global primes for 17 aircraft types and has saved over 7,700 lives.
Martin-Baker Aircraft began the MB 5 as the second Martin-Baker MB 3 prototype, designed to Air Ministry Specification F.18/39 for an agile, sturdy Royal Air Force fighter, able to fly faster than 400 mph. After the first MB 3 crashed in 1942, killing Val Baker, the second prototype was delayed.
With a history spanning over 80 years, Martin-Baker is still run by the late Sir James Martin’s descendants to this day. Originating as an aircraft manufacturer, Martin-Baker’s passion has evolved over the decades, now focussing on an issue very close to both ours and our founders’ hearts.

It “was an aircraft of sleek and pleasing lines,” the Martin-Baker firm’s own website reminds us.
