11 de may. de 2018 · Flooding is a major disturbance that impacts aquatic ecosystems and the ecosystem services that they provide. Predicted increases in global flood risk due to land use change and water cycle intensification will likely only increase the frequency and severity of these impacts.
We evaluated ecosystem service gains and losses in response to flooding and identified possible mechanisms that lead to these changes (Fig. 3) and found that aquatic ecosystems require flood protection strategies designed to dampen the undesired effects of extreme floods and enhance smaller beneficial floods to maximize ecosystem service provision.
