Peter Dougan Capaldi (born 14 April 1958) played the Twelfth Doctor from 2013 to 2017, beginning with a cameo appearances in The Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor, continuing from Deep Breath to Twice Upon a Time.
The Twelfth Doctor is an incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. He is portrayed by Scottish actor Peter Capaldi in three series as well as four specials. As with previous incarnations of the Doctor, the character has also appeared in other Doctor Who spin-offs.
He is the third Scottish actor to play the role of the Doctor in the TV series, following Sylvester McCoy, who played the Seventh Doctor, and David Tennant, who played the Tenth Doctor.
