Small brown woodpecker of lowland rainforest. Upperparts olive brown with small red spots (“stains”) on the shoulder (but these may be hard to see). Males have a red crown and nape. Found in a variety of humid forest habitats, including mature rainforest, secondary rainforest, and forest edges.

The red-stained woodpecker is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in eastern Brazil and the Amazon Basin. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest.
DESCRIPCIÓN. Carpintero mediano, Machos con distintiva coronilla roja hasta la nuca donde se vuelve amarilla a los lados. Espalda y alas verde oliva amarillento, ligera puntuación amarilla en las coberteras alares. Cuello, abdomen y región anal con barras negro-oliva y blanco.
