The Cordillera Vilcanota ( Spanish cordillera: "mountain range", Aymara: willkan uta "house of the sun") [1] is a mountain range located in Peru southeast of Cusco, on the boundary between the regions of Cusco and Puno. Lying 100 km / 62 mi south of Cusco is the impressive Cordillera Vilcanota. The mountain range has several peaks over 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) high, including the sacred Ausangate peak (6,372m / 20,906ft). Ausangate is the highest mountain in the Cusco region and the 5th highest mountain in Peru.
