The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) is an American private foundation founded by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates. Based in Seattle, Washington, it was launched in 2000 and is reported to be the second largest charitable foundation in the world, holding $69 billion in assets as of 2020.
Our leaders are guided by the foundation’s mission to create a world in which every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life. We are governed by a board of trustees, which in 2022 was expanded to include the CEO and five independent experts.
