  2. 28 de abr. de 2020 · Conclusion. Diagnosis of spontaneous ruptures of EPL tendon can be confirmed through clinical examination and MRI for patients with restricted thumb movement even with the absence of any identifiable predisposing risk factor. During surgery, detailed attention must be drawn towards the tendon ends which can have unusual gaps and bone abnormalities.

  3. Ruptures of the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon are known to occur primarily from local mechanical causes at Lister’s tubercle. Other reasons for ruptures have been proposed including local steroid or even distant steroid injections that might have weakened the tendon, leading to rupture.

  4. 14 de nov. de 2012 · Spontaneous rupture of the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon at the wrist is uncommon and mainly reported after fracture of the distal radius at Lister's tubercle, in synovitis, tenosynovitis, or rheumatoid arthritis [ 1 ]. Other causes include steroid treatment, excessive abnormal motion of the wrist joint, bony spur developing ...

  5. There are three suggested causes for the extensor tendon rupture: 1. The damaged sharp edges of the dorsally displaced head of the distal ulna cut the tendons by repeated rubbing of the tendons over the sharp edges which also ruptures the dorsal capsule of the DRUJ; 2.

  6. 2 de jun. de 2023 · A myriad of prodromal events or predisposing factors ultimately led to EPL rupture or tenosynovitis of the third compartment. Methods of reconstruction described included primary repair, tendon grafting, and tendon transfer techniques; all with generally good outcomes.

  7. Spontaneous rupture of the digital extensor tendons of the hand has been reported after Kienbock’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, Vaughan-Jackson’ syndrome, distal radial fracture. Rupture may also occur as a consequence of unrecognized carpal lunate fracture.
