Robotech Ep. 1 VF-1R: A variant for the standard fighters. Designed as a stop-gap between current and the advanced veritech design eventually replacing VF-1A/1J in service. This fighter had three head lasers. Robotech Ep. 32 VT-1D: Two-seat trainer model capable of mounting armament.

The VF-1 was the Robotech Design Team's solution to the question of how humans could fight 40 foot tall soldiers. It was fine to engage them with powerful weapons from the air, or tank like vehicles. But sooner or later, hand-to-hand combat would be required.
The VF-1 Valkyrie series were the first Human designed and built series of Veritech fighter. Each Valkyrie had three modes, Battloid, Guardian and Fighter, and were the most versatile mecha used by humanity during the First Robotech War.
